Things For Gamblers

Last weekend I went to a concert with some friends at a Hard Rock casino. None of us are serious gamblers, but we did a little gaming while we were there. I was dropping coins into a slot machine and as I watched the dials turn, I started wondering about the history of the one-armed bandit. As it turns out, the slot machine was invented in 1895 by a car mechanic, Charles Fey. In 1901, the same mechanic invented the first draw poker machine. Since he rented his machines to bars for a 50/50 split, he stood to lose a lot of money if people could hit the jackpot with "slug" nickels. So he also invented the "trade check separator" a device that could tell a "slug" from a real nickel.

I didn't win that night, but I didn't lose much, either. Maybe if I had read The Science of Winning At Slots before I tangled with the one-armed bandit, I would have come home with a little spending money. The system was developed by an accountant who always believed the machines could be analyzed and you could determine when they are less likely or more likely to pay winnings. This book teaches what he learned from his analysis, how to manage your money as you're playing and everything else you need to know -- all in about an hour. If you don't believe it can be done, just have a look at the proof: tax returns from big winners.

Maybe a little practice wouldn't hurt either. My Arcade is a twelve-game portable casino that hooks up directly into the AV plugs on your television, which means you don't need a console. You can play Slot Machine, Omaha Hi, 7 Cards Stud, Keno, Deuces Wild, Roulette, Video Poker, Black Jack, Aces and Faces, Baccarat, Texas Hold'em, and Caribbean Stud Poker -- without losing a cent! If you're one of the many players who only love poker, our touchscreen video poker game can help you practice a little bit before you hit the casino floor. It's a lot like the machines in casinos, with a backlit color LCD screen and crystal-clear resolution. It's fast and fun with seven poker games: Draw, Deuces Wild, Bonus, Double Bonus, Double-Double Bonus, Joker's Wild and Double Joker's Wild. It even has automated score keeping, casino sounds and flashing lights when you hit the jackpot.

And while you're playing, you can wear one of these t-shirts that prove you're serious about your game. Both feature dangerous looking skeletons who are dead-set on winning. The first shows his hand, a royal flush, while he holds a drink and a stogie and flashes an evil grin. The second can be personalized with your first or last name--or your gambler's nickname. Both are 100% cotton for comfort, especially when the game gets a little heated.

Well, I'd better go finish reading my book and then put some practice in on the portable slot machine to test my skill at using his method.

I'll see you next week,
Bobby
