First Coin Of The United States

Item # 23739

During the early days of the United States-before the establishment of the mint and creation of the dollar--the coins circulating in the country were predominantly milled Spanish silver. These 8 reales, or "pieces of 8," were legal tender in the U.S. until 1857.

This genuine 2 reales Spanish silver coin circulated from 1772-1821 in the territory that is now the United States. Obverse features a bust of the king of Spain with coat of arms on reverse.

Sonically sealed in an acrylic capsule and nestled in a felt-lined, cherry-wood-look display box with Certificate of Authenticity and story card.
